I looked for a long time to find a 4-slice toaster made the long way. I could only find white ones. I am very pleased with the way this one looks and fits perfectly on the counter without monopolizing the counter space. I like the many dial/darkness options and the lifting handle which allows you to monitor the darkness of your toast while it's toasting.
I read several reviews concerning this product where people were complaining that it would burn their toast terribly at even very low settings. I tried the level 4 setting to start out with as recommended in the owner's manual and it gave perfect results the first time. We use pretty standard whole wheat bread and have not had any problems with this product. I would have no problem recommending it to a friend.
The only reason I gave it a 2 is that it doesn't toast any better than a cheap o drug store model. This is one nicely styled toast, quality materials - good fit and finish. It also has some very nice feature: bagel setting, reheat without toasting etc. Another nice feature is the extra long slots. All and all I expected it to be a four or five star unit. AT $90.00 I expect consistent even toasting and Breville doesn't deliver Fortunately I got it from Amazon - so they are arranging for UPS to come pick it up for a full refund.I just received a Bella toaster Sensio 90002 Bella Professional 4-Slice Toaster just a few bucks more but early indications are that this puppy can toast. I have never seen such even toasting, Edge to edge - it almost looks like a sprayed on tan.
thought I was buying a top-of-the-line one. Anyway, this one I thought would be a slam dunk, looks good, Breville makes others products that work great, like their juicer is one of the best but this toaster. What a disappointment. Why are toasters so difficult. I should have returned it but I didn't.now one of the slots doesn't rise all the way. Primary criticism is that it doesn't toast evenly. Shouldn't this be a primary function of a toaster. I'll try taking back to Williams-Sonoma, but it's been a while, so I'm probably out of luck. Time for the trash.
This toaster was expensive, yet I bought it because it LOOKED good and high-end. Toasting takes a very long time; just look inside, the filaments are cheap and few. Also, the lever stopped working (won't stay down) after a year and a half. It is out of warranty, so no choice but to throw it away.
